Guillermo Bert B i o g r a p h y

Guillermo Bert's work has been exhibited and collected by numerous museums in the United States and South America. He has won multiple prizes, government grants and commissions and has created numerous public art murals and permanent installations.

Mr. Bert has recently had a number of important exhibitions at the Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA) in Long Beach (solo exhibition), the Fowler Museum at UCLA in Los Angeles, the San Diego Museum of Art in San Diego, the Architectural Design Museum in Los Angeles and the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.

This past year he had solo exhibitions at Gallery 415 in San Francisco, the Fremont Gallery in South Pasadena and Peter Blake Gallery in Laguna Beach.

These recent exhibitions have been reviewed in a number of art magazines and newspapers such as Art Ltd. (Jan '09), THE Magazine (Sep '09), Long Beach Magazine (June '09), Al Limite Magazine (Nov. '09), Long Beach Telegraph (May '09), and "Art for Obama," Abrams Books, 2009.

Mr. Bert has been developing his series called "BAR-CODE / Branding America," which is based on the Universal Bar-Code symbols. This series reflects the current political climate and his perspective on the consumerism that permeates the core of American society.

Bert is also currently working on a series of textile pieces where indigenous stories from the Americas will be encrypted on bar-codes and then woven by various native artists from the same communities using their traditional loom techniques. These works will all have correlating documentary video components and are to be exhibited at the Pasadena Museum of California Art in 2012.
