This video, is all about social networking revolution.

How did we get there?

Took a webinar last night and it was an eye oponer. The organizer told us that networking –regarding professional life- has different rules for women. She also mentioned that men are decades ahead of us since we are experts in doing this for our husbands -those who are married or have been- but not for us, due to: childcare, different activities, schedules and so on.

I am pretty sure a lot of people reading this will disagree with her and other, agree. Depending on their personal experience, they will see this as suitable or not.

Would add another factor, when in some cultures, you are looking to network and are professional in this process but relate with someone that is not used to it, gets confused or pretends to and thinks you want a relationship or a date. It has happened to a few of people I know and it turns out to be embarrassing, uncomfortable and/or quite awkward so she –Lumi Velázquez from Tecnológico de Monterrey- gave some pointers to be able to network or mentor with very good results:

• Create strong bonds among persons with experience that are generous with orienting others and helping them develop/grow.

• Create strong bonds with people who make careers or companies more easygoing.

• Create strong bonds that make visible the work and career of others.

• Create strong bonds that help achieve satisfaction at work.

She also adviced to:

* Be visible, transparent, congruent, authentic, generous, assertive and credible

* Tell the truth

* Be respectful

* Be trustworthy

* Avoid aggression

* Understand the cybernetic language

* Be patient

The objective of networking -for Lumi- is to establish long term relationships that really form a synergy (two or more forces produce a positive effect). To be successful when networking, we need to have a good attitude and give effective help. It also helps to network without always pursuing a particular interest: do it with true generosity.

Networks include:

+ women or men in your family
+ your family
+ your work colleagues and so on

When you are having in mind achieving something, is when you need to know exactly what know who to contact.

Regarding networking digitally, I have also attended webinars given by Joseph Katz. He has an internet radio show and is also good with this subject. Besides, he will enrich the point of view that I received from Lumi and shared it with you.

Regarding how SOL and myself network...promise to get something ready soon and post it. In the meantime, hope you enjoyed reading this and that it was enlightening or at least, helpful.
