La Mission
Growing up in the Mission district of San Francisco, Che Rivera (Benjamin Bratt) has always had to be tough to survive. He’s a powerful man respected throughout the Mission barrio for his masculinity and strength, as well as for his hobby: building beautiful lowrider cars. At the same time he’s also a man feared for his street-tough ways and violent temper.
A reformed inmate and recovering alcoholic, his joy and pride is his only son, Jes, whom he has raised on his own after the death of his wife. Che’s path to redemption is tested, when he discovers Jes is gay and in a rage, beats him. With this, he loses his son and himself.
Isolated and alone, he comes to realize that his patriarchal pride is meaningless and that to maintain his idea of masculinity, he has sacrificed the one thing he cherishes the most which is the love of his son. To survive his neighborhood, Che has lived with his fists. To survive as a complete man, he will embrace a side of himself he has never shown.
Written and directed by Peter Bratt, La Mission hits theatres this Friday, April 16th.
The Perfect Game
Living amidst the gritty poverty of 1957 Monterrey, Mexico, a rag–tag group of boys from the wrong side of the tracks discovers the joy of sandlot baseball under the guidance of Cesar, an aspiring Major League Coach thwarted by discrimination.
